"Orahovštica Trail" 

Viele Tagesbesucher kennen das Dorf Virpazar als Ausgangspunkt für eine Bootstour auf den Skadarsee.  Naturschönheit und Kultur der von Karstbergen geprägten Region Crmnica im Hinterland des Sees bleiben meist unentdeckt. 

Eine innerhalb Crmnica in sich abgeschlossene Mikroregion bildet das Tal der Orahovcica, welches vom gleichnamigen Fluss gebildet wird. Früher lebten die Menschen vor allem in den verstreuten Dörfern an den Berghängen, Virpazar am See diente als Marktplatz für Waren und Vieh. Die Menschen lebten von Selbstversorgung, bebauten die kargen Felder mit Mais, Kartoffeln, Getreide und Reben. Dazu hielten sie Ziegen und wenige Kühe. Die fruchtbaren Felder am Bach wurden für Gemüsebau genutzt.                    

Zahlreiche Wege verbanden die Dörfer miteinander, führten zu Mühlen oder über die Berge in Städte zum Markt oder ans Meer. Aufgrund der harten Lebensbedingungen, bedingt durch Industrialisierung und nach einem grossen Erdbeben wanderten immer mehr Menschen ab. Dörfer blieben teilweise verlassen zurück und Kulturland vergandete.

Der Orahovcicatrail lädt Naturliebhaber und Kulturinteressierte zum Entdecken und zur Spurensuche ein: auf Streifzügen trifft man auf überraschende Naturschönheiten, überwältigende Aussichtspunke und Spuren früheren Lebens. Gastronomieangebote und Unterkunftsmöglichkeiten bei innovativen Dorfbewohnern  schaffen Begegnungsmöglichkeiten und bereichern Besucher und Einheimische.

Orahovšticatrail introduction 

Many day visitors know the village of Virpazar as a starting point for a boat tour on Lake Skadar. The natural beauty and culture of the Karst mountain region of Crmnica in the hinterland of the lake mostly remain undiscovered. A self-contained microregion within Crmnica is the Orahovcica valley, which is formed by the river of the same name. In the past, people lived mainly in the scattered villages on the mountain slopes, Virpazar on the lake served as a marketplace for goods and cattle. The people lived on self-sufficiency, cultivating the barren fields with maize, potatoes, grain, how and vines. They also kept goats and a few cows. The fertile fields by the stream were used for growing vegetables. Numerous paths connected the villages with each other, leading to mills or over the mountains to cities to the market or to the sea.

Due to the harsh living conditions caused by industrialization and after a major earthquake, more and more people migrated. Villages were left partially deserted and cultivated land was decaying.

The Orahovštica Trail invites nature lovers and those interested in culture to discover and search for traces: on excursions you will encounter surprising natural beauties, overwhelming vantage points and traces of former life.
